Tournament Guide

How Tournaments Work

Everything from creating a tournament to the final podium — explained step by step.

1 Creating a Tournament

From your organization's dashboard, open the Tournaments tab and click New Tournament. You will set:

  • Name — displayed on the public live board.
  • Format — Single Elimination, Double Elimination, Round Robin, or Matchups.
  • Mode — Singles (1 vs 1) or Doubles (2 vs 2).
  • Courts — how many courts run concurrently.
  • Schedule — optional session date.
Minimum players: Single Elimination needs at least 2. Double Elimination needs at least 4. Round Robin and Matchups need at least 2. Doubles mode doubles these minimums.

2 Tournament Formats

Single Elimination

One loss and you're out. Fastest format. Produces a clear champion, runner-up, and semi-final losers as 3rd/4th.

Double Elimination

Players drop to a Losers Bracket after their first loss. Only two losses end your run. Grand Final may have a reset.

Round Robin

Every player faces every other player. Final standings ranked by total wins. Ties broken by head-to-head record.

Matchups

Custom or random pairings. Good for casual sessions without strict bracket constraints.

3 Bracket Generation & BYEs

When a tournament starts, the bracket is generated automatically based on the number of registered players.

BYE — when the player count is odd, one player is automatically paired with an empty slot called a BYE. That player wins immediately and advances. No real match is played; BYE results are never counted in win/loss stats.

Double Elimination note: BYE players advance in the Winners Bracket but the BYE placeholder is never dropped into the Losers Bracket. Only real players with genuine losses enter the Losers Bracket.

Staff can rename a BYE placeholder using the edit button next to BYE on the queue page.

4 Recording Winners

Only the Queue Master (the tournament owner or authorized staff) can record match results.

  • Find the active match on the queue page and tap the winner's name.
  • The result is saved immediately and the bracket updates in real time.
  • You can correct a result by selecting the other player — downstream rounds are regenerated automatically.
Winners cannot be changed after a tournament is finalized or after a Play Again session has started.

5 Round Progression

Once all games in a round are finished the next round is generated automatically.

Single Elimination

Winners advance to face each other next round. Continues until one player remains undefeated.

Double Elimination

Winners advance in the Winners Bracket. Losers drop to the Losers Bracket. The LB Final winner meets the WB champion in the Grand Final. A reset match is played if the LB player wins.

Courts run up to the configured maximum — multiple matches can happen simultaneously.

6 Placements & Podium

Once all matches are complete the podium is determined. The placements shown are:

👑

Champion

Winner of the Final or Grand Final.

🥇

1st (Runner-up)

Finalist who lost to the Champion.

🥈

2nd

SE: semi-final loser from the champion's side. DE: Losers Bracket Final winner.

🥉

3rd

SE: semi-final loser from the runner-up's side. DE: Losers Bracket Final loser. Only shown when enough players produce two distinct semi-final losers.

Player Summary — once the tournament finishes, a win/loss table appears for every participant. BYE games are excluded; only real head-to-head results count.

7 Singles vs Doubles Mode

The mode controls how players are grouped into teams:

Singles

Each player competes individually. A team is one player. Minimum 2 players.

Doubles

Players are paired into 2-person teams. Minimum player count is doubled. An odd player out receives a BYE partner.

8 Play Again

After a tournament finishes, the Queue Master can click Play Again to archive the current session and start a fresh bracket with the same players and settings. Previous session results are preserved in Session History.
